Update 4/7/13 — It's clear to me that I've gotten my point across with this post and my emails to the restaurant; I think I've had a healthy enough exchange with Empire, and that they've done enough to try to do right by me. As I mentioned in the original post, I think the restaurant does a lot of good for our local economy and environment, sourcing locally and being locally owned; I don't feel that leaving details of my negative experience up is really warranted. That's not to say I'll necessarily go back to Empire, but if you've had positive experiences there, by all means, you should continue to return.

So I've taken down the content of the post, but I'm going to leave the headline up and continue to allow comments.

My husband and I had a similar experience last year. I was pregnant at the time so I wasn’t drinking but I’ve always enjoyed the food there so I was kind of excited. We sat at the bar for about 20-30 minutes while waiting for a table and had excellent service. The bartender made me some sort of non-alcoholic fruit juice concoction that was delightful. I recall he was very attentive without being pushy or chatty. But when we sat down at our table, the service sucked. I second your comments on lack of utensils and unfilled water glasses. I was like a fish at that point – drinking about 2 gallons of water a day! – and despite asking multiple times for a refill, I never got one. We felt as if our presence at a table was somehow imposing on our server, preventing him from doing something far more interesting. We too will not be going back anytime soon. I’ll spend my money elsewhere.
