Destiny: It ain't over

Maybe. Seven of the nine members of the common council (some cities will call this the city council or the board of aldermen; you get the idea) have asked counsel to appeal Judge Centra's ruling. (For background and a rant, click here.)

I had dinner last night with Angela. We talked a bit about this. I mainly feel an appeal would be a waste of taxpayer money. But then the council asked for an appeal, and I'm thinking, maybe not. I'd be happy if this was shot down. Centra's ruling (PDF) says that this is clearly a public project. Well, if it's a public project, why are we not offered details? There should be a public RFP, a public process, and a public summary of costs and phase schedules.

None of that appears on Destiny's site. All the site does is promise miracles. Miracles I don't see.

Meanwhile, I spent a couple of hours in Armory Square tonight. This came up at dinner last night. The former Empire Brewing Company is out. The former Happy Endings is out but construction is going on there. There are only two franchises in the Square: A Starbuck's, which took over a Nancy's franchise, and sits across the street from a local shop that's doing so well its hours recently expanded, and a Quizno's, tucked in a corner on the edge of the Square, next to the Suds Factory, which makes the darkest pale ale on the planet, but the sweetest stout.

And the county wants to build a sewage plant in Armory Square. The city, the merchants and the residents are all against it. We need a ballot referendum against county government. Anybody interested in this course of action, what the hell, let's do it. E-mail me, and we'll see if we can get something started.
